New + Now explores how activism, connection, and participation circulate online. Presented at the Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts as part of the SHIFT residency exhibition, the piece features friends performing on hoverboards, doing yoga, and practicing relational exercises against a green screen. Their gestures—moving, balancing, circling one another—reflect both closeness and distance, showing how bodies navigate connection in a networked world. The clothing they wear is printed with trending social activism hashtags, highlighting the fleeting visibility of online movements. The title New + Now refers to the proprietary algorithm that determines what is trending, emphasizing how attention and engagement are filtered and fleeting. The work engages with the idea of being alone together: always connected through devices, networks, and media, yet still navigating isolation, proximity, and the constraints of mediated attention.
